The need of estimation of one of the phisical characteristics of men (the aerobic
capacity) led to the appearance of the first test (Harvard step-test) in 1943. and consequently
to the appearance of the first instrument for testing functional abilities (step-bench).
Despite the subsequente appearance of the step-bench – it is simple, economic and available
to wide-spread use – have favourized step-test as test of choise, and in certain circumstance
they are the only possible test.
The aim of this research has been to check and possibly improve standardization of
the Harvard step-test. A sample of 64 male athletes aged 15 to 17 has been chosen. Statiscally
signifant in the estimation of maximum oxygen uptake have been fond Harvard step-test, aerobic capacity, standardization.
