SUPPLEMENT TO HUMANISTIC CONCEPT OF YOUTHS’ SPORTS

PRILOG HUMANISTIČKOJ KONCEPCIJI SPORTA MLADIH

Sport Mont 2011, IX(28-29-30), 106-111

Abstract

Sport of the children and youths represents an ideal educative medium able to contribute to optimal personal and social development of the youths. However, positive influence of sports on their psycho-physical development does not have to be always expressed, especially when the victory on competitions is over-stressed. In such circumstances, a sportive environment can become to the children and youths a source of high pressure and stress, which can be the reason why they leave the sport, failing to realise their potential sport talents and predispositions. Whether the youths’ sport will become a mean for improvement of their psycho-physical development or the source of negative experiences mostly depends on the way it is organised and coached by adults, as well as on the aims they find primary. If we accept the humanistic concept of the youths’ sport, in which the victory is not the only aim, we will teach the children how to enjoy the sports, how to develop their inner motivation and how to become successful if they do their best. In this way, we will increase the chance to use a great educative potential and to put it in the service of health and proper development of the youths.
